HQ Books & Records is a collective record and book store offering creative public workshops, physical media, and more inside the Contemporary Art Museum Of Indianapolis. This collaboration is part of CAMi Creative storefronts and combines four local projects including AVANT NIGHT, Authentic Resource, Great Lemon!, and the Indiana Music History Project. We’ve cleaned out our closets & basement to bring you exactly what you need. Our staff is a stable of former record store owners, managers, and weirdos. You’ve been warned–the dead will walk the earth.

Authentic Resource is the current project of teaching artist Kelsey Simpson known for founding the art collective Gluestick. She has worked at several record and book shops including Indy CD & Vinyl, Square Cat Vinyl, Comic Carnival, and Irvington Vinyl & Books.  Her partner Sam Murphy is a sculptor who produces art toys under the name Doomtone. Together they fund creative workshops by selling vintage books, records, and toys.

AVANT NIGHT is an independent record label owned by Nick Ohler. He previously promoted concerts under the moniker Mythopeic Industries for 25+ years and owned the last incarnation of A-1 Records.

Tom Burris also worked at A-1 Records and owned Exile Records in Muncie. His current project Great Lemon!, is a lo-fi record label and is currently working to release the final Sea Krowns album.

Rick Wilkerson is the former owner of Irvington Vinyl and Missing Link Records. He’s been involved in multiple record labels including Hardly Music, Or/Aether Records, and Timechange Records. He currently operates the Indiana Music History Project which seeks to document local music history and preserve the output of the artists that have shaped Hoosier cultural heritage.

HQ Books & Records seeks to provide a store that combines the best elements of used book shops, traditional record stores, and collaborative art spaces.
